Second period is over, with one more to go. So far it's 2-1 with Russia leading. This is a BIG day for ice hockey. There will be 3 games going on. Russia vs. Czech, Canada vs. U.S., and Sweden vs. Finland.
So far these 2 periods have been nothing but action. The Russian fans are chanting. "Ro-Si-Ya! Ro-Si-Ya!" Fifteen minutes into the first period remained scoreless. Most of these guys are from the NHL, which is taking 2 weeks off during the Olympics. Then with about 4 minutes remaining, Russia scores its first goal!
Ew. The camera just zoomed in on a hockey player(who will not be named) going KA-TOO...spit...onto the floor in the bench area. Do you think they use Purell?
The Czech scores with less than 5 minutes left in the first period!
Early on into the second period, a Russian player makes a head dive(which isn't that strange)...into a ref. Oops. About 5 minutes remaining and Russia scores its second goal! The Czech players trying to get their second goal ended in a pile-up with Russia's goalie Nabokov and a few other Russian players. Jaromir Jagr of Czech Rep. is in there somewhere just jamming his hockey stick trying to get the darn puck into the net. The ref blows the whistle. It looked like one of the Russian players had his hand on the puck though! That's a big no-no.
And the crowd goes wild...booing the refs for making a bad call. The referees called no goal from that pile-up.
Update: Game ends with Russia 4-2! Great play by Russia's Pavel Datsyuk. He scored the final goal. This means Russia wins this division(Group B). Now they wait until the other divisions (Groups A and C) finish.
Canada vs. U.S. game will be on at 7P.M. Sweden vs. Finland will be on at 12A.M. As much as I want to see my favorite NY Ranger Henrik Lundqvist's pretty face, who is goalie for Sweden, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out the score of that game. Darn Mondays.
Happy New Year!
